Integration Gives German Consumers Access Premium Content on Joost and Netlog
London – March 19, 2009 – Joost, the global video web service, today announced that it has added eleven content partners in Germany, offering German language content. Additionally, Joost has partnered with Netlog, Europe’s leading social network. Through this partnership, Netlog users will be able to access Joost’s video library directly from the Netlog home page.
“Joost plans to roll out localized offerings in a number of European countries,” said Stacey Seltzer, senior vice president of business development and international content acquisition. “We’re delighted that Germany is one of the first markets where we’re able to partner with the best content and social networking partners, in order to create a truly robust entertainment experience for consumers in this country.”
In Germany, consumers logging onto Joost or Netlog will have a broad range of content to choose from including:
A selection of German language and dubbed films from Diva; documentaries and features from Süddeutsche Zeitung TV; comedy from JUM-TV; lifestyle programming from spin tv; portraits and interviews from MfG-Film; short serial formats from Casino Royale; extreme sports and music from Rebel Media; TV shows from Welt der Wunder and Turner’s Entertainment Brands [adult swim] and Cartoon Network; entertainment formats from Wieduwilt Film & TV Production; international news from euronews; lifestyle and gossip programming from KIT digital's WOW! TV; and music from Intro and c/o pop.
“Netlog’s innovation in social interaction makes them a great partner for Joost,” said Stacey Seltzer, SVP of Business Development for Joost. “Social interaction and community has always been important to video viewing in an offline world, and Joost is committed to bringing that experience to the online world.”
Now, Netlog users will be able enjoy movies, TV shows, music videos by logging into their Netlog account, where they can also share videos with their friends, comment and favorite videos and clips by simply using the Netlog features they use today. Comments and activities, such as shows watched, are posted to the Netlog feed – letting people easily demonstrate their interests and activities to their friends.
“Friend-to-friend recommendations have always had a powerful influence, particularly on the movies and TV shows our members watch,” said Toon Coppens, CTO and co-founder of Netlog.
“We are happy to work with Joost to expand the entertainment opportunities for our members, particularly because Joost delivers high-quality, localised content – just like Netlog,” he continued. “With 60 per cent of our members aged between 14 and 24, it’s crucial we keep them engaged with relevant and entertaining content.”
Europe is a priority for Joost and this partnership is a significant step towards engaging that market. Globally, more than 57,000 videos are currently available on Joost.
